About Rebecca

Rebecca is a master’s level, BCACC certified, Registered Clinical Counsellor (R.C.C.) and has been in private practice in Vancouver and the Fraser valley for over 15 years.

Finding a therapist you trust is foundational to successful counselling.  As a therapist, I treat everyone who comes to see me with compassion, care, discernment and sometimes humour with the goal of creating a space where everyone feels safe to process their thoughts, feelings and experiences.   I want anyone who decides to honour me with their story to feel supported and encouraged.

Although I see people with all kinds of concerns and issues, I specialize in three main areas:
  1. Emotional Abuse Recover (EAR)
  2. Parenting and Family
  3. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

1.     Emotional Abuse Recovery (EAR): When individuals have been or are in relationships where they are exposed to pervasive and consistent emotional abuse their voices have been robbed and their sense of self eroded.  Trying to express the nuances of covert abuse can make a person vulnerable to further dismissal and even re-victimization.  Expressing this pain with someone who can give a language to this abuse, however, can be tremendously healing.  This includes child/parent relationships as well as intimate and employment relationships.

2.     Parenting and Family:  Through training, personal experience, research and practice I have realized that the average person’s parenting skills are rooted in their fluency in (or lack thereof) a secure attachment language. This is a language that is inclusive of both verbal and nonverbal behaviours.  Since most of us did not grow up with parents who were safe, loving, guiding and supportive, most of us grew up with some degree of disrupted language for attachment.  Once parents can “speak attachment” fluently, they understand the tremendous impact they can have on not just their children, but families, community and friendships.

3.     Cognitive Behavioural Therapy:  CBT is a well-documented therapy for use in anxiety and depression.  It seeks to make destructive and distorted subconscious thoughts conscious so people can challenge and ideally eliminate them.  The roots of many destructive behaviours can live and thrive in distorted thoughts and beliefs.  When we uncover the distortions we can reveal the truth behind them and be set free.
